Single master cylinder system Brake Bleeding
1. Prior to starting any activity ensure you have the
following, a brake bleeding tool, which allows the fluid to be fed into the cylinder from
height, allen key or appropriate screw driver to undo the bleed screws on the calliper, and an
appropriate dot 4 brake fluid, all of which can be bought from the maccKARTING website
2. Firstly undo the fill screw on top of the single
master cylinder, and screw in the gravity fed brake bleeding tool, being careful not to cross
thread.
3. Fill the brake bleeding tool reservoir with the dot 4 brake fluid and leave the top
off it to allow gravity
do it’s work.
4. On the calliper locate the bleed screw that is
furthest away from the master cylinder or at the top of the calliper, and remove the screw,
being careful to retain the fibre washer or rubber seal on the screw.
5. Open the tap at the bottom of the brake bleeding
tool, to allow the fluid, with gravities help, push the old fluid or any un wanted air
through the system.
6. Allow the fluid to pass through the system for
approx a minute or until you are satisfied that all the dirty looking fluid has been replaced by
the new clean fluid and you can see no air bubbles popping out from the bleed screw removed previously.
7. Once satisfied with this replace the bleed screw,
ensure that the fibre washer or seal is fitted and tighten up with appropriate tooling.
8. Turn off the tap on the bleed tool and top up the
bleed tool reservoir again with the dot 4 brake fluid.
9. If there are no other bleed screws on the calliper
then the exercise is complete, and skip to section 12.
10. Locate the other bleed screw on the calliper,
remove the screw, ensuring you you retain the fibre washer or rubber seal.
11. Repeat sections 6 to 8,
12. With the exercise complete, check that the brake
system is operating correctly, by depressing the brake pedal and check that the brake pads
operate in tandem, and there is no spongness
felt, if so
repeat the above operations
•Note :- It
is absolutely imperative that when carrying out the brake bleeding exercise
you check
that all seals you have exposed are in a good serviceable condition and when
you carryout
your operational checks you check there are no seepages or leakages from all
areas in the
system. There are variants to the bleeding exercises above and these are only
a guide, if in doubt
