Stub Axles – These also have bearings fitted, usually two, using
the macckarting recommended light oil, apply to the bearing and rotate the stub axle to allow
the oil to penetrate, this will reduce water ingress and reduce the risk of failure on the
track. Always check that there is now excessive play in the bearing by moving the stub axle in a
up and down motion, if you find there is excessive play then replace immediately.
Track Rod Rose joints – The rose joint is a bearing that is not
sealed is normally a chromed ball in a phosphor bronze outer shell, even thou the nature of
phosphor bronze is to naturally lubricate, it is still wise to add a spray of light oil to
them to help prolong life of the bearing, these commonly wear out quickly and you must check for play
on a regular basis and replace if required.
