Installation of a complete axle assembly
1.Prior to installation check that there is no damage to
the chassis axle hangers for cracks, ensure that you have all bearings/housing and brake
disc/carrier and fitted and roughly the correct position and that they in a condition where
you can slide them up and down the axle freely to allow ease of positioning
2.Lower the axle into the chassis axle hangers, this is
where slight adjustment will be required to allow the bearings housing to fall into place
and the brake disc will need to be adjusted to fall into the brake calliper.
3.
4. The
axle is now in it's initial position
5. Using the retained main attachment bolt and
position through all the bearing housing and chassis hanger positions
6. Tighten all bolts and nip up
accordingly
7. The axle should still slide through the bearings,
this will now allow you to set the axle into central position on the chassis
8. This can be achieved by measuring each protruding
end of the axle and setting it so both ends protrude at the same measurement
9. Once this is achieved check again that all bearing
housing bolts are fully tightened and then check measurement again.
10. Now you fit all the grubs previously retained and
tighten up so they pinch the axle and stop any lateral movement.
11. Then position the brake disc so it is
equal-equal within the calliper.
12. Ensuring that the steel keyway is in position,
tighten up the carrier attachment pinch bolt and then tighten up all the disc attachment
bolts, if you previously had to loosen the calliper to allow removal of axle you can now tighten up
accordingly
13. Now ensure that the disc runs freely and the axle
runs freely on its bearings, you are now in a position to fit the hubs and sprocket
carriers.
NOTE - WHEN ADJUSTING THE AXLE CENTRAL
POSITION IT IS IMPERITIVE THAT YOU ONLY USE A GOOD CONDITION NYLON OR HYDE MALLET, IF A STEEL OR
COPPER MALLET IS USED IT WILL DAMAGE THE END OF THE AXLE
